A Screaming Overdrive Pedal with Clarity

Digitech Bad Monkey Tube Overdrive

Well, we were hooked from the name.

Housed in a familiar green metal box, with a level, bass, treble, and gain knobs. And with a hand painted "Bad Monkey" (We know its a silk screened on there). It's part of the new analog distortion pedals series from Digitech.

1 input and 2 outputs. One of the outputs is for amp the other is a direct recording/mixer out with speaker emulator.

Just for these features it's cool enough. But how did it sound? Well, I compared it to a TS9 tube screamer and the results were very favorable. Having been a tube screamer user since 89 or so. we figured the Bad Monkey was gonna get spanked!

Upon plugging in (of course we used a tube amp, set to a clean sound), the amount of control the Bad Monkey offers is almost insane from the 3 knob overdrive pedals of yesteryear (and this year and next year).

We were able to dial in a sound very familiar to me only with more clarity and not the muddy mids.

We tried the guitar with a humbucker in the bridge, and also a single coil bridge guitar. The tonal characteristics of both were well preserved like a jar of beets from your grandmothers house, you know the ones you see every year.

All in all it's a great overdrive and a great back up for under $70.- it's a great replacement or second overdrive.

We recommend it.
